
It started in the shallow end.
Slime was found at the bottom of the pond, which is where slime is usually found, and was brought up to the surface by somebody who thought it might be something else. It was not something else. It was slime.
He has lived on the floor ever since. Not near the floor, not just above it: on it, in direct contact, at all times. When people say a coin has found its floor, they are describing a place Slime has never left. He cannot go lower. There is nowhere lower to go. This is the single most reassuring thing anybody has ever said about a token, and he says it just by sitting there.
He is not sad about it. Look at his face. He is delighted.
